Biography
Teach a child piano; they can learn independence and goal setting, play music for themselves and others, and have fun doing it for a lifetime.
I believe in a well-rounded music education. My students learn to play piano through music of all genres giving them a chance to play music they enjoy and an understanding of how different cultures explore music. I believe that the best musicians have a deep understanding not just of their instrument, but of music history, theory, composition, and of others instruments as well.
In my studio, students progress in the following way: Age 8-14 is where you learn to play piano and document the learning, Age 14-17 uses the piano knowledge gained to complete a major project and document the journey, Age 18 presents the findings from all of the documentation for their professional portfolio. Beyond that age, you continue to learn, enjoy the process as much as the results, and help others learn as well.

I started piano lessons at 5 years old. I was fortunate to have parents who believed strongly in a musical education. When I was frustrated with lessons and wanted to quit, their strategy was to hand me a new instrument and challenge me to learn it. I wrote my first piece of music in 6th grade at the piano. By the end of high school, I was playing jazz and classical piano, saxophone, clarinet, drum set, and guitar.
I graduated with a degree in BM Music Composition from University of the Pacific in 2014. Shortly after, I was teaching there as adjunct faculty. I leeft to complete my Masters in Music Production, Technology, and Innovation from Berklee College of Music in 2019. I since have taught songwriting, music production, individual and group lessons for multiple instruments, arranged and composed dozens songs, and perform when I can. I have been teaching with Oclef since 2024.
Music can be a lot of fun, but it takes serious work and dedication. I try to make the work as easy as possible by keeping my students engaged, playing, and curious.
