FAQ

Will I need to give my billing information?
No, attending 1:1 lessons and taking a one-week trial is completely free. We will only collect billing information after you register a student AND we are able to place them with a professor.
How will I be billed?
You will be billed via ACH automatically each month.
Are there discounts for siblings?
Yes, we offer a $50/month discount for each additional sibling.
How long are the lessons?
Each lesson is 15 minutes of one-on-one instruction Monday through Friday. The professor may require students to stay longer if needed. There is no additional cost to you.
Is there a deposit or a yearly contract?
No, there is no deposit or yearly contract.
Is the first month 100% money-back guaranteed?
Yes. If you're not completely happy within your first month, we'll refund every penny — no questions asked.
What about makeups?
Makeups are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday and are 30 minutes each. Makeups are not taught by the professor and are not guaranteed to be one on one. Students are expected to work on scale drills and take theory quizzes during makeups. We trust that you will prioritize piano over all other activities and that makeups are rare.
What about holidays?
Oclef is closed on all federal holidays. In addition, there is a winter break and a summer break, each lasting about 10 days. You will receive a full yearly schedule on enrollment.
What about vacation?
If you go on vacation, please let the professor know in advance. Your child can learn piano anywhere there is an internet connection. If a keyboard is not available, the professors will shift lessons to focus on ear training, theory and analysis. If you are out for an extended period of 1 month, we can freeze payments and you will not be billed for the month.
Is there an age limit for students?
Oclef recommends students start at age 8. Children learn piano quicker when their abstract thinking skills are more developed. This saves you money in the long run. We accept younger students only after a free evaluation.
What if my child has prior piano experience?
Our professor will assess your child's prior piano experience and will determine any gaps in knowledge and skills that need to be addressed. Afterwards, the professor will tailor the lessons accordingly.
Does Oclef offer once-a-week lessons or 3x-a-week lessons?
No. Oclef believes that in order to learn piano effectively, students should have regular practice sessions Monday to Friday. Ideally, we encourage students to login to our practice Zoom on weekends.
